Wanda Williams Obituary

I shall wear a crown, When it's all over, I shall see His face, When it's all over.
I'm going to put on my robe, tell the story how I made it over
I'm going to put on my robe, tell the story how I made it over
I'm going to put on my robe, tell the story how I made it over
Soon as I get home..."

It is with great sadness that we announce the earthly transition of Ms. Wanda Mae Williams, who entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at The Citadel Elizabeth City surrounded by her loving family.

Remembering Wanda's Life

Wanda was born on Dec. 14th, 1965, in Pasquotank County, NC to the late David Leroy Williams and Catherine Griffin Williams. She started her education in the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank County Schools and graduated from Northeastern High School in 1984. She attended College of the Albemarle and transferred to Elizabeth City State University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. She also received her certification for completion of the Basic Course for Correctional Officers.

Throughout the years, Wanda was employed by the Pasquotank Correctional Institution, she was a substitute teacher with the Elizabeth City Public Schools System and was also employed by the Albemarle Commission Area Agency on Aging as the Nutrition Site Manager.

Although our hearts were not ready, Wanda leaves to carry on her legacy, her only son, Devant Jamaal Williams, Daughter In-Law Vianca Mercedes Williams and one grandson who stole her heart, Denzel Jaquan Williams.

Wanda leaves to cherish her memory eight siblings Susette Overton(Clinton) of Elizabeth City NC; David Williams JR(Dianne) of Goldsboro NC; Ronnie Williams(Jackie) of Elizabeth City NC; Terry Williams(Linda) of Winston Salem NC; Cynthia Poole(Walter) of Elizabeth City NC; Juliet Godfrey(Robert) of Elizabeth City NC; Helen Priscilla Tate(Harry) of Elizabeth City NC; Melody McCoy of Elizabeth City NC. Three aunts: Mary Kirkland(William) of Virginia Beach; Vivian Griffin of Elizabeth City NC; Nellie Griffin of Elizabeth City NC; Two Uncles: Neman Williams of Virginia Beach and Jubby Griffin of Elizabeth City, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Her legacy was enhanced with the Godly love that she portrayed to her family and friends. She loved the Lord and had great admiration of her church Lambs Grove Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Mt Carmel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Michael Barclift and there she was President of the Pastors Aid, a Missionary on the Beautification Committee and a member of the Gospel Choir. She had a great love for the members especially her church sisters.

Wanda was a devoted Cowboys fan and loved cars. Anyway, that she could help someone, even if it was just to uplift them and put a smile on their face, she would do it. She was deeply loved and will be truly missed.
