It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Griffin Barber who entered into eternity on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at her home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Celebration of Life Services will take place on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at 1:00pm at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Ricky L. Banks, officiating and delivering the words of comfort. Interment will follow at Doves Landing Cemetery. A walk-through viewing will take at Mount Peace Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC on Friday, November 19, 2021 from 2:00pm-5:00pm. The family will also receive friends on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the funeral home from 5:00pm-7:00pm. Masks are required for all services.
Patricia Barber, daughter of the late Charles Mitchell and Bessie G. Wrighten, was born on May 22, 1951. Patricia transitioned at her home on November 13, 2021. Patricia grew up in Pasquotank County and attended public schools. Later she relocated to Fayetteville, NC to attend Fayetteville Technical Community College receiving her Associates Degree in Nursing while a single parent raising two young children. Patricia worked many years at Cape Fear Valley Medical Hospital as a head nurse in the ICU. She relocated to Raleigh, NC in early 2000 where she worked at various hospitals. Patricia retired in 2015. She became a faithful member of Mount Peace Baptist Church. Her belief in God was unshakable. Patricia loved entertaining, shopping, traveling, her children and her grandchildren. She loved helping anyone in need.
Patricia leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Kimberly Yvette Whidbee and Angela Denise Whidbee; four brothers, William Thomas Wrighten, Jessie Kay Wrighten, Tracy L. Wrighten (Emma) and Arthur L. Wrighten; a sister, Rebecca Wrighten-Johnson (Albert); four grandchildren, Ja-Vonte D. Whidbee, Scenchrea J. Manuel, Emmanuel D. Manuel, and Alexis S. Whitted; three great-grandchildren, Aaliyah L. Hollfield, Juelz Whidbee, and Sarai Manuel; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
