Odell Driver Jr. Obituary

“When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrors like sea billows roll.  Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.  It is well (it is well), with my soul (with my soul), It Is Well, It is well with my SOUL”

Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at New Hope Baptist Church in Suffolk, Virginia (4260 Pughsville Road) beginning at Noon. A viewing and visitation will take place on Friday, August 12, 2022 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the church.

Nick was born on April 23, 1961 in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was the only son of Odell Driver Sr and the late Betty Sue Godwin. He grew up mostly in the Portsmouth City area, but graduated from Bamberg High School in Germany in 1981. After high school, Nick joined the United States Army, where he served honorably for 4 years. Later he moved back to the United States, where he worked for Saint Joes paper company for 22 years. Upon retirement Nick dedicated his time and resources to Philanthropy and volunteering with his Church Food Ministry and the Salvation Army. After he purchased a home in Suffolk, Va there is where he resided for two plentiful decades.

Waking up every morning choosing to be happy; Nick was energetic, artistic, spiritual, faithful, and gracious. Loved by all and adored by many, He modeled a life well lived and will forever remain in the hearts of those whose lives he touched. Nick was an incredibly lovable husband, father, brother, Uncle and of course Friend. His Wisdom will live on through his legacy, which was to love
faithfully, work hard, and trust in Gods master plan. His sense of humor was unmatched, as much was his uncanny words. Children and animals gravitated towards his easy and
fun personality.

Widely respected for his wit, free-spirit, depth of experience, and directness, Nick was driven by his insatiable curiosity to explore the world and live life to the fullest. Good food was important to
him; whether dazzling friends with his famous fried Chicken or fueling loved ones by serving up his signature breadpudding at family gatherings. Nick worked hard and played hard.He loved music, dancing, playing video games and the Dallas Cowboys.
But above all, Nick loved his family.

In addition to his lovely wife, Francine Driver, Nick will be proceeded by his mother Bettie Sue Godwin, and honorably remembered by his father Odell Driver Sr, his daughter Stephanie Gregory; his Step-children Maxcine Eley-Smith and Tavoress Eley; his grandchildren Olivia And Owen Gregory; Adonia, Travon, Lamonte, Gabriella, Makayla, and Gizelle Eley; his sisters Theresa Driver, Thea Wilson, Terri Walker, Karen Denise Neal, and Michelle Neal Jackson and an extensive family of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
