It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Julia Bernice Major who entered into eternal rest on December 18, 2023 at her son’s residence in Jackson, New Jersey surrounding by her loving family. Celebration of life services will commence on Friday, December 29, 2023 beginning at 11:00 in the morning at Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Entombment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Julia Bernice Major was born to the late Shelton Ray Lowry and Hazel Daniels Lowry in Camden County, North Carolina on June 8, 1932. She was raised in NYC with her Aunt Julia when she attended and graduated from Washington Irving High School. She worked as a program encoder, and a customer service representative holding positions at MetLife, Travelers Tree, Fort Hamilton, Group W Cable, and Paragon Cable. Julia was the loving mother of two children James Major Jr. and Deborah Ford. She is also survived by grandchildren Candice Ford, Jacquelyn Major, Roger Anthony Ford, Danielle Ford, well as her great grandsons Terry “Munchie”, Ethan, Declan, and great granddaughters Caitlyn, and Fallon, and her Daughter-In-Law Claudette Major. She was also preceded in death by her four brothers: George, Shelton, Bobby and Calvin, and her sister Mrs. Lillian Spence.
