Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the earthly transition of Mrs. Carlett Melinda Boyd Douglas Dinkins who entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 29, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. 
 

Celebration of Life Services will take place on Saturday, August 6, 2022 beginning at 1:00pm at Holy Trinity Community Church in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. A viewing and visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 5:00pm-7:00pm. Interment will be held at Doves Landing Cemetery.

 

Carlett Melinda Boyd Douglas Dinkins born to the late Melvin Boyd Sr. and Elsie Mae Ridley Thompson Boyd in Baltimore, Maryland at John Hopkins Hospital. Carlett was a scholar, who loved to learn and always worked hard! She graduated at Lake Clifton High School, and went on to obtain her associates degree as a surgical technician. 

With a strong upbringing in church, Carlett went to St. John Christian Community Church under the late Pastor Tommy L Jenkins Sr. Often, she attended Pillar of Truth with the late Pastor Barbara Roberson. In 1979, she married Todd Douglas and had three children; Shanell, Unique, and Nechelle. During her career, Carlett worked at the United States Postal Office for over 20 years. In October of 1999, She married Lorenzo Dinkins and they became a blended family with over 7 children. In the year 2000, Carlett decided to relocate to Elizabeth City, NC to follow the ministry of Pastor Randy Harris with Gateway to Heaven Church. After relocation, she worked at Albemarle Sentara in Sterling Processing for over 14 years, making countless friends along the way. 

Her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and her faith was everything to her. Carlett was a devout Christian serving on multiple auxiliaries. She was Head of the Ministry of Health, armor-bearer to the Pastor, and the usher board. She served countlessly, until her health prevented her from doing so. 

Carlett was predeceased in death by; one sister Gerena, 5 brothers Duane, Melvin, Ronnie, Ralph, and Derwin, and one granddaughter, Jabrea Douglas. 

Carlett leaves to mourn; her husband Lorenzo Dinkins, 3 daughters Shanell, Unique, and Nechelle Douglas (Deroca). One son, Lavelle Dinkins and four stepchildren. Twelve grandchildren; Jawaun (Tiffany), Jaysha, Janiya, Taleya, Joshua, Caleb, PJ, Brooke, Kayvon, Kaiser, Ahmir. Six great-grandchildren; Aaliyah, Jayden, Jordyn, Khamar, Alaia, and Jayla. Two sisters, Randy (Melvin), Joyce, and Brenda. Step-brothers and Step-sisters; Bobby (Donna), Audrey (Jimmy), Queen (Leonard), Miriam, Edward (Jackie), Carmelia, Carol (James), and Tyrone. Two special friends that were near and dear to her heart, Tracey Owens of 54 years and Pastor Randy Harris of 34 years.
